SPECTRUM I

TRANSITIONS - DESIGN MUSEUM LONDON, DESIGNERS IN RESIDENCE 2017

SPECTRUM I, is a contemplation on the Melt and Freeze cycles of the Earth, and water
level changes as a result of this. The Earth’s natural rhythm indicates that there is a shift from Ice age, to intermittent warm periods in 100,000 year cycles. SPECTRUM I looks into the bliss point,

the balance and the transition within this period, between the glacial and interglacial periods.

The heat from the light source melts the hot ice, making the solution transparent. The light then hits the glass optical prism, projecting a rainbow to its surroundings. When the cycle is complete, the hot ice freezes over, creating a frosted appearance and the rainbow disappears.
